Sammy and the Friendly Body Guards
Inside every body lives a tiny team of helpers called the Body Guards. Their job is to keep us feeling well. Most of the time, the Body Guards are calm and quiet. But sometimes they meet something they don't like, and they sound an alarm inside our bodies.
When the Body Guards sound an alarm inside our bodies, we can feel itchy, or sneezy, or our tummy can feel funny. That is called an allergy. Different people can have different allergies. It could be to a food like peanuts, to dust, to a swirl of pollen, or even to certain animals. Some people don't have any allergies at all, because we are all different.
It is not your fault, and it is not the food's fault. The best thing we can do is be a good friend to our Body Guards. We learn the things they don't like, and we choose other yummy foods or fun activities instead. Grown-ups help us read labels, ask questions, and pack the right snacks.
If the Body Guards ever sound a big alarm, we have special helpers like medicine or an EpiPen to help us. Your trusted grown-ups will know exactly what to do to make you better.
You are safe, you are brave, and your body is doing its very best to look after you.
